Mr. Jerry Nix, Unit Manager, at Taylor sawmill has high standards. When it came time to select an online size control system he looked to their sister mill at Dodson , LA. The Dodson sawmill processes all Taylor 's lumber at their planer. Jerry wanted to bring Taylor 's size control process in line with Dodson's where SiCam™ RealTime has been in use for a number of years. Mr. Tim Taylor, Quality Control Supervisor, at Dodson observed that: "There are significant opportunities for lumber recovery and quality improvements by having both mills aligned in their size control strategy. SiCam™ RealTime will facilitate our ability to pursue those opportunities."
Todd Buchanan, Partner in charge of Business Development visited the Taylor site and immediately it was apparent that they needed a multiple piece scanner (MPP) on the outfeed of the small log line. He notes: "The SiCam™ RealTime System with MPP side view scanners were required to handle both thickness and width of each piece in the VSA stack. Jerry understands the value of monitoring each sawline separately especially for troubleshooting and root cause analysis. He is big on process reliability and improvement. We offered both laser and MPP options. Jerry simply wasn't willing to compromise key features for the sake of a few extra dollars so we decided to proceed with the MPP solution. Securing the Taylor project was another feather in our cap. Winning another Weyerhaeuser project drives us to deliver exceptional value."
The SiCam™ RealTime System was installed in July-August 2005 with training programs being delivered to key personnel.
